Let It Go

***SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE FROZEN BELOW***

Product DetailsIt has been  almost a week since John Travolta has pronounced Idina Menzel's name incorrectly. People everywhere are making fun of him.  I do feel sorry for him, because a lot of people have mispronounced my name and I simply corrected them a few times. The big difference between Idina Menzel and me is that she is a well known artist. So how could anyone not know her name. I did not know about her until I saw her as a guest on a couple of shows. Later on when I saw the movie Frozen, I realized how good she sings.

When we were young and our moms told us bedtime stories they always told us the moral of the story in the end. When we see Disney movies we know that they are meant for kids. What we seldom realize is the fact that there are hidden metaphors in those movies. The Oscar Winning animated movie is amazing to watch. We take technology for granted, but if someone understands the difficulties of the work that goes behind animation they will be amazed too. Besides having beautiful animated scenes, the movie has a very good motto. It is teaching us adults that if you have a child with a problem, do not hide it. Try and see if there is an answer to that problem. A treatment if you will. In the movie the younger sister, Anna suffers separation from her older sister Elsa because their parents want to keep Elsa's secret from everyone including her younger sister. In the end of the movie Princess Elsa the girl with the problem is telling herself to let it go, meaning let the secret come out in the open. The best part of the movie is that the treatment for the problem of the older sister is only unconditional love and that she finds in the heart of the younger sister.

What I learned from the singer Idina Menzel is to keep trying your best. If she can sing in spite of broken ribs I can keep doing my daily chores in spite of breathing problems. "Let it go" to me means do not dwell.

I saw the movie and I thought it was much more an adult movie - with some very good lessons.

We haven't seen that movie yet, but I'm sure we will. My husband and I enjoy the animated Disney movies as much as our younger grandchildren do. And we laugh even harder than they do.

Hi Munir .. I haven't seen Frozen, but am sure at some stage I will .. probably on tv in due course.

Mispronunciations of names - it's so difficult now-a-days .. and people just haven't been exposed to that sort of thing .. and don't care sadly - poor old! John Travolta .. I'm sure he didn't mean it ..

It's one of the first things I do when I meet people with foreign names - I check how they're said .. sometimes I just can't seem to get them, but usually I take everyone by surprise and get it right ... comes of working in Eastern Europe, as it was, living in Africa .. and being aware, I guess ..

Cheers Hilary

I am waiting to rent FROZEN from Amazon but right now it is too expensive so I have to wait a little longer. I am not too worried about John Travolta. He's got big shoulders and will survive his faux pas.

That definitely provoke me to watch the movie. Love the way you have reviewed it. Keep it up :)

People call me Ingrid all the time and I really don't care. I had never heard of this singer or this song before. Both were lovely and because her name was mispronounced by someone more famous than she, people have become interested in her. Which is a good thing.

I just found your blog through the lovely comment you left on mine.

I love the way you think and the way you write and will back for sure.

I also enjoyed your recipes on your other blog. Foofoodd is one of my passions and particularly middle eastern food.

I have not seen the movie you wrote about, but Iwill look into it.

Please visit me again!

I have not seen this movie, but I did see the singer perform it the night John Travolta mixed up her name. She sings beautifully. I had no idea she sang with broken ribs. How painful! Sounds like Frozen has a great message. :)

Also- what a great blog! I am following you, but my picture here does not match my GFC picture for some reason (it has always matched until this week- not sure what happened). :)

Dear Munir, some out-of-town company, a young mother and her nine-year-old daughter are coming to visit with me for a few days next week. They are bringing the movie "Frozen." I really didn't know what it was about until I just read your posting. Now I will truly watch it and enjoy the voice of the singer. Thank you for explaining all this to me. And I'd like you to know that I, too, am trying to "go with the flow" and let go of the voices that niggle within me about things that are hard to deal with right now. Peace.

I rarely watch animated movies, but my children do, and they are now teens. They just watched Frozen yesterday. After reading your review, I might be tempted to watch it, too. I'll try to be patient enough. :) The message you described is a good one.

I hope your breathing problem goes away some day soon.

Munir I wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog today... don't worry, when I say that it is difficult, what I mean is the path that I have chosen now is so much different than where I saw my life actually going. As for the weight, I give myself a break and I don't worry about eating something that might be unhealthy, life is about fun too :)

I became a fan of Idina Menzel a few years ago, when I saw her on Glee. Great review Munir, and I also look forward to seeing Frozen! Hope that you're feeling better.
