Happy Father's Day

My mom always blessed me when she wished my husband a happy father's day. She would say that if it was not for having each other we would not be good parents. I understand what she used to say, but when I look at some single parents I see that they do not leave any task undone, they do not let their children feel the  absence of the other parent and more over they sacrifice their own personal life for the welfare of their children. One such example is the Dad from the television show and also the movie"Veronica Mars".  Actor Enrico Colantoni did a fabulous job as Keith Mars the single dad of Veronica, a high school student who had to deal with differences between rich girls and below average income family girls.  He stood by her and guided her while his daughter had to put up with the attitude of teenage girls who knew not much other than entitlement. He let her be brave and figure out cases while still keeping an eye out for her. He risks his own life to save hers when she gets herself into dangerous situations. Yet when it came to his own personal life, he always keeps his daughter's welfare in mind. I always wondered how many men are like him.

A coworker of mine in my previous job comes close to the dad in Veronica Mars. His wife died leaving a three year old daughter and he never thought about getting married again or even dating. He started thinking about ladies, only after his daughter got into high school and insisted that he should have a life.

It's so nice to see you posting Munir... I've been a single mom twice... it's not easy... but rewarding when I see my children even do better than me... I hope you have a great weekend ;-)

Not familiar with V. Mars but my dad's death left my mother a single mom with 4 kids. I was 10 years old and never felt neglected or insecure. She went back to school and to work and we helped as much as we could. She did a great job and I miss her. Fathers' Day is combined in my mind with the heroic efforts of all parents who do their very best.

I am blessed to have a wonderful father. My mom is wonderful also. I watch some of these young single mothers, my daughter included, and how they struggle. As you say though it is amazing what can be done when you put your child first. :)

My son's wife left him and their children when the children were 4, 2 and 8 months of age. He proudly raised these children, taking on the job simply as part of life and his greatest joy and not as any great burden. Now all three are in college. He was not filling any roles as mother or father, he was simply an excellent parent.

I've never seen this show, but it sounds like a good one! My Grandfather raised my Mom and her 4 brothers after her Mom died when Mom was 10. He did a wonderful job even though it was hard to raise a girl with all those boys! Happy Father's Day to your family!

Just wanted to thank you for visiting my blog and for your wonderfully encouraging comment about just writing...and not worrying about the fact that I am not good with a camera and, thus, don't have a lot of photographs.

Blessings,
Patti

Dear Munir, so many single parents sacrifice their own lives for their children and put off their own enjoyment so as to be present to and for their children. They are exemplary. Thanks for reminding us of that.

I didn't get to see the movie "Veronica Mars" but now I'll look to see if it's on Netflix or maybe even in the library. Thanks for writing about it. Peace.

I agree about single dads. Keith Mars was a great one, and it's impressive when a single dad succeeds under so much pressure and stress. Great post!

What a wonderful thing to say of your mother that she knew they were good parents as a team :)
A friend of mine is a single mother, too, and I see in her exactly what you described - a mother who lets her daughter have her experiences but is always there for her to guide her and will always put her daughter first. I'm so amazed by her and any single parent that takes such amazing care of their children.
Also your co-workers daughter was raised to an amazing woman if she was the one telling her dad to go have a life :) That shows that all his efforts were worth it. Thank you for sharing this amazing post with us!

hi Munir! hope you and your family are well. love your post and i must say i haven't seen that movie but sounds like something i would like. I was raised in a single family home my mother being the parent. Mom was a positive influence in our lives for sure. yes it was difficult for her i'm sure but as a child in the situation i had no idea. :) but i can say i was a single parent for a short time while my children were 13 11 and 8 and it wasn't easy to create a balance in their lives and mine. I think the emotional support is what goes lacking the most because in both experiences our other needs were met. We had food, clothing and shelter and means to practice good hygiene.
anyways...great post. hope to talk with you soon. take care!
