Be there

White Standing Spray - GreatLots of people say that life is a gift and they are right. Not everybody knows that for some people each day of their life seems like a burden. Also for some people their overall life is fine (or may seem to be fine) until they come to a junction of crossroads when they do not understand which way to go. Only survivors of an attempted suicide may discuss what lead them down that road. Sometimes it is too late and we all wonder about what it was that forced someone to commit the unimaginable. It will be really nice if each one of us has someone we can talk to in case of a difficult situation. I pray for the day when all parents know the hardships of their children no matter how old they are. It will be really nice to know if your coworkers are going through hard times emotionally or a student of yours seems to be hurting so you can say a few reassuring words to them. The National Suicide Prevention week is about to end. Yesterday was World Suicide Prevention Day so let us give this problem a thought and not forget that the rest of the year is as important to remember to be kind to those who seem to be going through a turmoil. It is not easy to read people's minds and especially if people are too proud or shy and lonely they may not be comfortable with talking to you, but as they begin to feel that you can be trusted and are helpful, they may talk to you. We are not counselors and not everyone can afford one and a lot of times the need is not recognized for a long time. A very young coworker of mine was lucky enough to help out her brother-in-law who was hurting from his parent's divorce. However, I was not as lucky to save a friend of mine who did not want to go through the everyday agony of watching her parents fight. In college I took it for granted that suicide is a sin and did not realize that some people are hurting too much to think straight. So let us all get to know people around us and let people get to know us.

Hi Munir - it's good National Suicide Week has been brought to our attention and I'm sure many of us have some connection somewhere ... the sadness that's associated with the situation. "Be There" is an excellent thought ... too few of us allow sufficient time to just be with someone ... who is old, tired, or as you mention suicidal ... the young too - when they are too young to realise that as they get older they'll work out helpful ways to get round situations.

Thanks for highlighting .. Hilary

A very good post, Munir. A number of people who commit suicide think the world will be better off without them.

Love,
Janie

Often those who are left behind after someone commits suicide feel so much guilt. It is a difficult situation, one that I have experienced at close range a few times in my life.

Munir it is so sad that people judge other people...when it comes to suicide, no one knows the pain someone is going through and how they cannot see the good. I have never attempted suicide but I have been very down, thankfully I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel even when I cannot see it and it seems to take forever. There are many people that do not know this... they cannot see it ever getting better. I too wish we could be nicer to each other and remember we are all dealing with trials and challenges xox

This is a great post and so true.

What saddens me the most is when young people..teenagers..make that choice to end their lives over something that can be changed. It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. However, we're not in their heads and don't understand how they're feeling so no judgments, just sadness for them and their families. I would hope I would be there for anyone who needed to talk or help.

A very good post, Munir. We are also having Suicide prevention campaigns in our country.

Good ideas. It's impossible to know what someone else is thinking unless they're willing to talk to someone.

What a sweet post. I strive everyday to be emotionally available for those who know me, but sometimes I drop the ball.

Hi Munir, this is a great post bringing light to this difficult subject.
You are so right. We just don't know what a person could be going through and a kind word could make all the difference in another's day.
Thank you for sharing.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.
Hugs, cm

Your words reminded me of this; “when someone is going through a storm, your silent presence is more powerful than a million empty words.” If only people keep compassion, attention and love to those in need, this world would be better off. Thanks for your visit and a lovely comment.

I believe that death brings "the peace that passes all understanding" so suicide can be a gift to the sufferer. However they give no thought to those they leave behind and the pain they cause in the wake of their suicide.

Dear Munir, I've been away from blogging for nearly a year because of health problems. This week I returned to reading blogs and discovered that so many of those bloggers I follow have experienced bad health or other tragic events in the past year. This shows so clearly that adage about how everyone we met carries within a burden of pain. Peace.

What a beautiful and informative post. Suicide is overwhelming for all the people left behind. In my mind I take comfort that the person who took their life is with God.

Munir, I think suicide is the saddest thing. People can be in a crowd and still be alone in their hearts. They should reach for God...he would help them to over come and find friends. We must always pray for others. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
