October

It was few years ago we were driving on route 9, through Beacon and Cold Spring New York, my husband asked me to write a poem on the month of October as he loves the fall foliage. By the time we got home, I had the poem ready for him. He loves it. Being a science person he does not look at poetry in a critical way. As long as I conveyed his feelings he is happy. Here it is.

October
Colorful leaves of New York Autumn
your beauty is so mellow
Orange, Red and royal Maroon,
lightest Green and Yellow

Heavenly horticulture
surrounding all the highways
you cover majestic mountains
and shine through the sun rays

Graceful, delicate and short lived,
like Tulips and the Daffodils,
you always surrender to winter land
and make room for the sleigh bells

I remember that he pointed out the word "the" before Daffodils as he too had read the famous poem. Then I realized that I should not have assumed that just because he is a science person , he would have nothing to do with fine arts. I was ashamed.

I'm glad you didn't get hit by the snow storm that would have wiped out any and all of those beautiful leaves you penned such a sweet poem about! Have a great week!

Hello Munir! That's a truly beautiful poem. I'm so glad you shared it with us. And so sorry about the storm knocking out the power. I'm glad yours is back on. Yes, quite a disappointment for the trick or treaters, but it's not worth venturing out when it's not safe. It's still October 31st here in California, so it's not too late to wish you a Happy Halloween. My goodness, October sure whizzed by, didn't it?

Science and the arts are not mutually exclusive. I find that they're complementary.

A beautiful Poem Munir. Truly captures the feeling of the season getting ready to lay dormant until spring.

Munir...my father was a wonderful poet before being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Over the years he's written some amazing poems (volumes) and someday I hope to see his work published. He was that good. Your poem about October took my breath away. It is simply beautiful. I printed it out and put it on my computer and included in your name at the bottom so I'll always know who wrote it!

Blessings for a lovely day. Thank you for visiting me this morning~

Dearest Munir,

Thanks for your visits and meaningful comments! Yes our living room has lots of books, several rooms are full with books in our home. Hardly time to read them all... In our veranda with some tea and a book would be a dream but for that one needs servants and that's impossible here in the USA. In Indonesia we had servants but not here. The poem was a great one to put here and your husbands clever remark about the emphasis on 'the'. The devil is in the details and never underestimate the other person...
Love to you,

Mariette

You should put up a November post before it's over.
