A Valentine for every one

Assorted Valentine Greeting Cards 30 Packprism-smile-face-heart-roll-of-stickers

Charles Schulz is not with us anymore but a lot of households watch Charlie Brown's Valentine's Day. We all watch the little girls forgetting (on purpose) to give Charlie Brown a Valentine.  If Charles Schulz was alive would he ever write an episode when Charlie Brown would get some Valentines, if even a few?  I wouldn't know. Although I can guess that there are kids who do feel like Charlie Brown does on Valentine's Day. I am not so sure if we are lucky enough not to ever have a heart broken kid. We can work towards making that happen as parents and as grandparents.  Therefore I am writing this post a week earlier. If as parents some of us have purchased or are helping our kids make little Valentines we can make sure that they have enough (maybe some extra) so no one is left behind without one. I remember back in 1996 one of my co- workers was venting about having to buy two boxes of twenty-four Valentines because her daughter had twenty eight kids in her class. She thought that her daughter's teacher was being fussy about either no Valentines or a Valentine for each kid. Friends or not. I suggested that she could make cards with her daughter and it would give them quality time together as well. I am not so sure if she took my advice for the following year, but I certainly hope that the teacher is firm about that rule.

That is a good idea. I'm with fishducky. My kids always gave Valentines to all the other children.

What a terrific idea! And I agree - give them to all or none.

I love Charlie Brown. We have copies of his Christmas show, as well as his Halloween show.
They always make me smile.

Munir, I am with you... I think either give no Valentine cards or give every one a card. Basically if the child wanted they could just make the ones for their special friends a bit more personal.

We'll have see how that pans out... it is an idea I can get behind :)

Thank yo so much for dropping by my blog and commenting. I truly appreciate you taking the time xox

I remember sitting with my girlfriends in elementary school and counting our valentines. I never had the most. Janie Jernigan always had the most. There are things we never forget. She must have been better than me.

I like that teacher! No child should ever be left out, but I've seen it happen.

The memories of so many Valentine's Days came back with your post. We always made a card for each kiddo in the class. The craziest part of the day was creating the boxes they needed to put the cards in! 4 kids with 4 different ideas! A big heartfelt hug to you!

A thoughtful teacher and no one should mind buying cards for all the children. Or as you suggested making them with their kids.

I, too, hope that teacher stood firm. I love your idea of making the cards together. That's how it should be!

Wow, thank you for this post. I hadn't really thought about anything like that. Thanks also for the sweet comments on mine. I haven't kept up with you as much as I'd like because I've neglected my blogging badly. I'm hoping to feel more up to it soon. I've missed you all so much.

My kids always give Valentines to all the children in their class. Sometimes we even make our own.

My co-author taught 5th grade for 15 years and she had the same, very firm, rule. It was a card for everyone or no one. She also passed out a card to everyone, to make sure everyone got one and she kept extra cards in case someone somehow lost one or was missing one. I am not sure why some parents would think it was okay to have their child not make a card for everyone. Who wants to leave a kid out?

I love your idea about making the cards together. I hope your co-worker took your advice.

Happy Valentine's Day to you!
Jess

It never ceases to amaze me that parents will teach their children to exclude some of their classmates for such things as valentines. If a child is having a birthday party and numbers must be limited private invitations should be delivered. School is not the place for exclusivity.

I'd forgotten all about that Charlie Brown Valentine TV special.

I guess I'd rather spend a couple of bucks on the cheap extra valentines than make them, but that just uncrafty me.
