I am starting a legacy. It is similar to that of my parents. My father used to teach math to college students who were preparing for the exams even though he never worked as a teacher. My mother who was a teacher would buy extra notebooks and pencils when she took us school supply shopping so she can give them to our milkman's children. I am starting a legacy, the legacy of the "Travelling Bird". Why Bird? This is how I came up with the word.
Buy a book.
Invest in literacy.
Read the book.
Donate the book to a public library or an inner city school library.
Public libraries desperately need help. Most of them can use some good fiction books for children and young adults. So, I will buy books, read them, then when I am done I will donate them.
Why the word, "travelling"? At the library, or in the school, the book will be borrowed by children. This way the book will travel from hand to hand. I will write the words "the travelling bird" on the books on the first page. This way the child who reads the book will know about it and may be one of them will continue this legacy as well.

Hi Munir - brilliant idea ... well done and so important, as so many still in our countries cannot read ... take care - and good luck ... loved the Life of Pi, and well Harry Potter seems to rule the world! Cheers Hilary
Munir what a great idea, I love this... I have donated many books to the library as I feel it's a waste not to... I think it would be a wonderful idea if we all did this, we'd fill our local libraries xox ♡♡♡
I love it and will try very hard to be a BIRD:-)
What a wonderful idea!!
Such a good idea! Those young readers will be traveling in their minds as they read the stories that will take them on amazing adventures. I've always loved to read and I owe that to a school library.
A good idea. I have donated books too libraries, but I never asked if they used them for reasons other than a book sale.
Munir, What a brilliant idea. I love it. Maybe I should start doing this. But the truth , here in our town we have book sales on tables in the lobby of the library...cheap books being sold by the library, or donated books also. Growing up, there were no books in our home...we were very poor. But now, I have many books and my children grew to be great readers of books also. :) Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie
This is a wonderful idea! I am all for plans that will help increase literacy. :)
This makes so much sense to me! Thanks for sharing this wonderful idea.

Wow, what a great idea. There needs to be more like you out there that's willing to increase literacy. It's so sad how bad it's got. Thanks for the sweet comments on mine.
What a great legacy. I'm just now cleaning out my bookcases and I have a couple of hundred books to donate. I usually give the good ones to the library and the rest to the thrift store. After reading this, I will go through them again and pull out any children's books and include them with the stuff that goes to the library. I am very fond of children's books, but most of mine are in Swedish. Still, I have a few good ones to give away. I had to delete two of your comments and left one. There were such huge space between them that it looked weird. Don't know what went wrong. Good luck with your legacy.
All my used books always go to our library.
Dearest Munir,
Oh reading is such an important aspect of every child's life!
So proud of our local Rotary club. They do hand out Encyclopedias to 3rd grade kids at all our region's schools!
Pieter always attends, being a life long teacher himself, that is so rewarding to do.
Wishing you and yours a healthy 2017!
Hugs,
Mariette
Hello Munir,
That is a brilliant idea to be a 'travelling bird.' We pass on books too, a whole mass together once in three/four years. Reading is so important to children and adults both.
That's a wonderful idea. I'm sure libraries will appreciate your efforts.
Hello, Munir.
What a lovely idea. You are such a kind soul.
How have you been? I have not visited in quite a while--and for that I am sorry. You always have something interesting to say. :-)
I will be back. Take care, my friend. ~ Teresa
We have little free libraries in the parks uptown. Take a book, leave a book kind of thing. They are really cute.

So nice idea..
Hi Munir, what a great idea to create BIRD and the traveling books. This is going to bless so many. Your kindness and generosity is to be admired. Thanks for sharing and also for stopping by and your kind comment. Have a nice weekend. xo
I love this idea! So beautiful and kind. Spreading the love of reading is a wonderful legacy. Fabulous name for it too! :)

What a wonderful idea! Thank you so much for giving back by supporting reading and libraries! I love how you came up with "Bird." Have a lively weekend!
That's a fabulous idea! Talk about a gift that keeps on giving... no telling how many children will read those books because of you. Your parents would be proud.
I love this idea. I already buy books and then donate then to charity shops or give them away, but I wonder now about sending then to libraries abroad. I'm sure the libraries here wouldn't take them as they would have to buy a particular way. I will make some enquiries. I'm wondering about prisons.
Now this is a wonderful idea ...
All the best Jan
I love this idea, I am not sure where you are located but I will start this where I live in Alberta.
Munir: What a wonderful legacy to leave to your family and to your children. I've donated the books i've written to many local libraries but what a great idea to buy a new book, read and then share. You are a blessing to so many of us and all those children included. Thanks for thinking of this clever idea. I'm always looking for ways to help others and nothing could help more than educating children by giving them books to read. Blessings to you and yours. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I've been on there so infrequently lately people think I've given it up. I'm in the middle of designing a book cover for my latest book. Keeps me busy, that's for sure. God bless. Barbara Whittington
My three books are online at Amazon Kindle and free through Feb. 17th if anyone is interested.
Amazing legacy! Very well done!
This is a beautiful idea!
Donating is my favorite bit, exchanges can also be fun!
This is definitely a wonderful idea ....I have books that will be donated to libraries and maybe hospitals....you are an inspiration !!!! Thank you.
Munir, I just wanted to drop by and wish you a lovely upcoming weekend and to thank you for the wonderful comments you leave on my blog xox
Excellent idea.
Hi, Munir
Thanks for visiting my hang out
:)
such a great idea - reading, it is so important!!!
Its an amazing idea! I think reading broadens our perspectives, sets us free.
I'll take a lesson from here to donate the books.
I hope that libraries will continue to get the support that they need. The new Trump administration (as far as I know) has proposed defunding support to public libraries. I don't know how far that will go, but it definitely has me concerned.
What a brilliant idea. I am so grateful to have found books and spreading that love is an excellent idea. And thank you for visiting me.
I’ve just discovered your blog. Its really interesting and I’m sure I’ll be checking it out a lot in the next few weeks.just discovered your blog and it looks truly great…Good work!
